c. 1907. Cheng Won arrived in Canada in the late 1800s when the head tax was still $50. He was an enterprising businessman. Won owned “Wo Hing General Store” in Lillooet, British Columbia until it burned down in 1948. He also owned and operated a pig farm, a barbershop, a dance hall, a “moving picture room” and two restaurants. Locals often called “Mr. Wo Hing” because of his well-known store. Cheng Won died in Vancouver on February 3, 1953.
